Where Are Swim Lessons held?
Lessons are located at 1922 E Lynwood, Mesa, AZ 85205 . My parents are so kind to let me use their pool!
What will be taught?
I teach all levels of swimming.
Beginner I teach a routine 30 minute lesson plan that entails becoming comfortable in the water, breath control, orientation with the side wall, beginning supine float, while concentrating on back floating. I teach beginners primarily survival skills, consisting of a swim, float, swim sequence. The goal being that if your young child was to fall into the pool they could either turn and grab the wall, or roll on to their back and float, then roll to their stomach and again to their back until reaching safety or help arrives.
Intermediate At this level I progress the swim, float, swim sequence into a forward stroke. I also teach proper body mechanics for stroke progression.
Advanced This level can be less structured and focus more on the needs of the child as pertaining to stroke development. I can teach all 4 stroke patterns- front stroke, backstroke, butterfly, and breast stroke. This would be a great class for older children that can swim but may not know any formal stroke techniques, or it could supplement a child who is already participating on a swim team.
How long is each lesson?
30 minutes
What time are classes?
Classes are in the AM between 9 and 12. You can come twice or four times a week. Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday, or Monday-Thursday. I recommend that beginner swimmers come 4 days a week for a least the first month.
When do classes begin?
Classes begin June 4th and will run through August. Sign ups will be week to week in order to accommodate any summer travel plans you may have, or you can sign up for a month at a time. Once you have signed up I will always try to secure your time and spot as long as you plan to continue swimming.
How many children are in a class?
I like to keep my classes small. Each class will have 3 children or less.
At what age can my child start to learn to swim?
I always say the younger the better! A child’s fear of water can be reduced or overcome at a younger age, but it’s never too late to start. Any child 18 months or older is welcome to sign up.
What if my child is afraid of the water?
Than you have come to the right place! With a little work and a lot of patience I can help your child begin to overcome their fear of the water, and hopefully completely conquer it. If I had to say I have one specialty as an instructor, I would say it’s helping children feel comfortable in the water. I feel it is very important for each child’s fears to be understood, faced, and overcome.
Do I have to get in the water too?
No. However, with beginner swimmers I do prefer that a parent sits by them on the side until a level of comfort and discipline is established. When necessary I may ask parents to completely leave the pool area in order to overcome difficulties that may arise.
What if I can’t make it to a lesson?
If your child is sick or if you let me know ahead of time that you will not be there, I will refund the lesson. If you fail to contact me I will consider the absence a "no show" and would prefer you honor our weekly payment. If I cancel lessons I will try to conduct a make up lesson on Friday, credit you the money, or refund you.
How much does it cost?
Each lesson is $10. Attending twice a week will be $20 per child, and 4 times a week will be $40. Sign up for a month and get 20% off and $5 off the second child. That's only $128 a month for 4 days a week, for the first child!
Personal needs or requests may be met.
